From the Earth

Twelve female chefs team up for a charitable dinner.

Earlier this year CBD Provisions hired its first female sous chef, Carolanne Treadwell. Somewhat new to the Dallas scene, Treadwell noticed one thing: a lack of celebration of the amazing female chefs within this city. Thus, the annual De La Terre Dinner was born.

“This event is a celebration of food and our gender,” Treadwell says. “We’ve selected chefs that have been in this city for decades, and some, like me, who have just gotten here. We also wanted all of the chefs to have different styles—there will be people who make fried chicken for a living, and some who use tweezers to plate daily.”

Even cooler: the 8-course meal will not only be produced by women, but also benefit them. A portion of the tickets will be donated to the Genesis Women’s Shelter, which helps women who are victims of domestic abuse regain control of their lives.

“A handful of the participating chefs went to visit Genesis and it was an amazing experience,” Treadwell says. “We’re so excited to be supporting them with this dinner. Hopefully it’s a relationship that continues to grow.”

The Details: Tickets for the De La Terre dinner are still available: $130 per person with additional cocktail and wine pairings for $50. Reservations required, dial 214.261.4500. CBD Provisions, 1530 Main Street.
