Garance Doré Does Dallas

Bonjour!

What did we do for fashion inspiration before the days of Pinterest? There was a J. W. Anderson-sized hole in our heart needing images to lust after. In terms of modern outfit of the day porn, Garance Doré is giving us so much both in front of and behind the camera.

The French illustrator, blogger, photographer, and a whole lot more more stopped by Dallas on her Love Style Life book tour, and activities included fried chicken at Sissy’s, breakfast at Weekend Coffee, and a stroll around Downtown.

We sat down with her to chat about many things, including love, style, and life (wink wink).

1530 Main: I know this isn’t your first time in Dallas. Why did you want Dallas to be a stop on your book tour?

Garance Dore: I had a great time in Dallas the first time around. I found everybody very welcoming—and I love the food ! Tex mex, BBQ…!!!

1530: Can you tell me a little bit about what inspired Love Style Life?

GD: It’s that idea that style is so much more than just clothes, because being beautiful and stylish comes from the inside. It’s pretty simple actually, but how do you go about it? I feel like I’m giving the keys to what I learned.

1530: You write, illustrate, shoot, video blog… Which is your favorite and why?

GD: I don’t really have a favorite, but writing is definitely the most direct way to interact with my readers and be myself. I have a taste for dreamy images that can make it seem like my world is out of reach (it’s actually just good lighting, I give my secrets in the book) but my words are more raw and unedited, and I’ve always been told that it make me very approachable, which I really want to be!

1530: Have you ever been starstruck?

GD: I don’t get super starstruck but I still am able to embarrass myself, trust me. One day I met Kristen Wiig I had that feeling we should be best friends from what I knew from her, which I told her. She looked at me weird, but was very nice.

1530: What’s the one thing you won’t leave your home without?

GD: You know… My phone. I wish I was more original!

1530: What do you like the most about fashion?

GD: I like that it’s about making the world more beautiful.

1530: What’s your favorite song right now?

GD: The song my boyfriend Chris Norton wrote for me. I have a SONG! Can you believe it!??

1530: Americans are always coveting French style. Is there anything you admire about “American” style?

GD: I love America, and what I love about American women is their true love for fashion. They go for it. Dallas is a very fashionable city. It has its own style, which I always find very charming.

1530: What do you find inspiring?

GD: The inner path. How we grow and change.

1530: What are your beauty necessities while traveling?

GD: I just paid a luggage excess because my beauty essentials are so heavy! I guess I would say a good facial cleanser, a lotion, and a mascara.
