An intimate interview with skincare guru May Lindstrom.
May Lindstrom wants you to take a moment to stop and smell the roses. Not literally (though that’s nice, too), but in the form of bringing the daily ritual of self care back into your life, starting with your largest organ—your skin.
“Skincare is typically about fixing the negatives,” the guru says. “I wanted to create products that were a catalyst for change and filled with positive energy. Using them is about taking a celebratory moment to take care of yourself and do something that not only feels good, but is good for you.”
Lindstrom’s eponymous seven piece line, available at Forty Five Ten, is small-but-mighty. Each product is designed to be a complete sensory experience, starting with the beautiful black-and-gold packaging.
Take her “favorite treat on the planet,” The Blue Cocoon, as an example. Unscrewing the lid reveals a bright blue solid oil. Taking up a pearl-sized scoop, and you’ll see it begin to melt in your hand. The hydrator’s hero ingredient is Blue Tansy, a sweet-smelling flower that helps reduce inflammation and irritation of the skin. Massaging the oil on wet skin, you’ll instantly being to feel the hydrating power.
“For those with skin concerns, Blue Cocoon is medicine; for those lucky people with perfectly balanced skin, it’s a bonus,” Lindstrom says.
Online, Lindstrom intimately describes her personal rituals associated with each product.
“I’m a workaholic mother, who is currently pregnant, and travels a lot,” Lindstrom says. “I consider these products and rituals to be the bookends of my day. I’ve found that the best thing I can do for myself, my family, and my business, is to take a few minutes at the start and end of my day to care for myself. Those couple minutes where you close the bathroom door, breathe in the beautiful scents, and drink it up, are the most beautiful moments of the day. I’m a different person when I enter and leave the bathroom after those moments.”
The Details: May Lindstrom’s line is available at Forty Five Ten, 4510 McKinney Avenue.
