Pack a Punch

Midnight Rambler’s recipe for the perfect holiday punch.

Let’s face it: The holidays and all corresponding invitations and commitments can drive you to drink. (We’re talking to you, crowded parking lots and office parties.) But who wants to spend the entire evening mixing individual cocktails instead of commiserating with pals? Fortunately for all of us, there’s punch.

A convenient, old-school concoction designed for mixing ahead en masse, it’s the perfectly uncomplicated antidote to everything that’s, well, complicated, about the season. Plus with ingredients like cinnamon and cloves, this Wassail punch from Midnight Rambler will get your home smelling just like the holiday spirit. We’ll drink to that!

1 oz cognac, preferably Pierre Ferrand 1840
1 oz Jamaican rum, Appleton V/X
4 oz of Wassail batch (recipe below) if serving hot; 3 oz if serving cold
Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish

1 qt organic apple cider
1 pt non-sweetened pomegranate juice
1⁄4 c of sugar
1 c freshly squeezed orange juice
3⁄4 c freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp whole allspice

Combine all batch ingredients in a large pot
and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for one hour. Remove from heat and keep refrigerated until serving hot or cold. Measure spirit into glass and combine with batch.
