Lyrical Life-Wear: The Ultimate Issey Miyake Monograph
Instagram maven, bookseller, and social media manager at The Taschen Library, Sarah May, tells us about the title she can’t put down.
“Recently restocked, Issey Miyake gave me light heart palpitations during my first flip through. The Japanese designer (perhaps now better known for his fragrances) merged technology and fashion in the ’70s and ’80s. With vibrant colors and oh-so-eighties poses, this book celebrates Miyake’s most influential moments. His large, pleated, structural dresses are like architecture, and the ground-breaking editorial campaigns from these years are ogle-worthy to say the least.
For some, summertime is for flowing dresses and sandals, but Miyake proved that tunic-like, floor-length dresses are everyday wear. Organized by year, this book hits its stride in the 1986 chapter with a fun #couplegoals photograph on page 142. You need to see it.” — Sarah May
