The new (and fast) sandwich-centric menu downtown has been asking for

Working downtown is one of the best perks of living in Dallas. You’re centrally located, have great shopping options, and have lots of restaurants and bars for working lunches and happy hours.

That said, there’s been a hole on Main Street—a sandwich-sized one, if you will. Picture this: you’re hungry with little over 30 minutes to spare before your next meeting. No time for a seated lunch or ordering take-out, but the idea of fast food or something from a pastry case bums you out. There’s the dilemma.

Regulars at the downtown culinary spot Commissary have mentioned this to the chefs there, consistently asking for more/better/faster lunch options. And so to answer the neighborhood’s demand for gourmet offerings on-the-go, Commissary has launched a new menu with a lineup of sandwiches and salads as the star.

Setting out to make the best sandwiches in Dallas, they taken a playful culinary approach to all-time favorites. Offerings range from the Veggie Bánh Mì made with crispy tofu to The Italian with house-cured meat and house-pickled giardiniera. Even the humble Turkey Sandwich received a facelift with gruyere, sweet pepper relish, and oregano vinaigrette. Our personal favorite on the salad side of things is the Sesame Miso Chicken, a napa cabbage base topped with fresh veggies, orange segments, crunchy wontons, and a sesame miso vinaigrette.

Of special note: the rotating daily Blue Plate Specials featuring Commissary’s most popular selections, including the Porchetta Sandwich, which GQ deemed “as glorious as any version outside of Ariccia, Italy.”

Everything is made fast and wrapped ready-to-go. And if you’re in a real hurry, the café market is stocked with pre-made fresh salads, sides, and snacks.

Lastly, we’d be remiss not to mention the new breakfast menu, which includes bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and tacos alongside favorites from the previous menu. (Don’t worry, the Coconut Oatmeal stayed on!) Expanded offerings from the in-house bakery also include breakfast pastries and house-made baguettes for French-style ficelles with ham and brie. Yet again, another good option for a super fast lunch.
