The Taschen Library: Staff Picks

What’s on the wish list of our Taschen sales associates this season.

“My most recent favorites are The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. The books are filled with universally known stories, that stay true to the original tales, AND have beautiful illustrations. They offer just the right dose of childhood nostalgia to get me into the holiday spirit.” – Daniel Casey, Sales Associate

“My favorite book at the moment is Fashion Designers A-Z, it is the quintessential fashion encyclopedia and each cover is limited and unique to the selected fashion house. It’s not only a gorgeous book but it also includes luminary fashion pioneers and quaint insight in reference to the heads of the fashion houses from past to present day. It’s art personified, as there are quotes from the designers as well as beautifully photographed images of key pieces featured in The FIT Museum in New York that truly highlight each designers aesthetic and silhouette with appealing colors it’s as if you can feel the fabric from off the pages; the colors and detailing are extremely vivid! Plus it includes an award-worthy sketch of the designers themselves. I recommend this book to anyone whether interested in fashion or not this limited edition style bible is sure to peak ones interest visually!” – Leonard Fortner, Sales Associate

“My all time favorite Taschen book is Barbra by Steve Schapiro and Lawrence Schiller. It documents the first 10 years of Barbra’s film career through photos and stories. I’ve loved Barbra since I was a girl, and have been known to belt out a song from “Funny Girl” or “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever” while housecleaning or driving. The photographs and stories Schapiro and Schiller share are delightful insights into how Barbra worked and what it was like to work with her. She is such a unique and powerful woman and this book gives a wonderful view into her world in those early days.” – Erin Johnson, Manager
