Boba tea makes it to Deep Ellum
It’s been almost two decades since bubble tea became a “thing” in Dallas. (We’re not doing the exact math because it makes us feel old.) The sweetened tea drink with chewy tapioca pearls or “boba” has been going strong since, but in Carrolton, Richardson, Arlington…not so much near the heart of the city.
Saturday’s grand opening of Bobaddiction in Deep Ellum remedied that situation. Finally, boba tea minutes from downtown. Bobaddiction launched in 2013 as a food truck. Ready for a permanent spot, they’ve set up shop in the slated wood stand that previously housed Monkey King Noodle Co.‘s Banana Stand.
Its menu offers classic milk and fruit-based teas with boba and rainbow jelly add-ins, alongside Vietnamese-style desserts and shaved snow. (It’s the ultimate snow cone. Super fluffy shaved ice is domed and topped with fresh fruit, ice cream, and condensed milk.)
Taro and Thai tea are our standard go-tos, but the menu offers opportunities for branching out, like honeydew milk tea. Strongly recommended but not currently on the menu: buying the larger dual cup with segmented sides allowing you to try two flavors.
