WE’RE SHOOK

WE’RE SHOOK

One of our favorite restaurants has big cocktail news

In the summer of 2022, Bon Appetit ran a rather depressing headline: Get Comfortable with the $20 Cocktail. It’s Not Going Anywhere. “With the rise of alcohol prices,” the article went on, “inflation is hitting where it hurts.”

And so we’ve all made choices now and then to skip that last drink or opt for BYOB—adjusting to the new normal with heftier prices for the spirits we enjoy.

This weekend, one of our favorite local haunts in the nearby Knox-Henderson neighborhood announced they’re taking a bold move against the grain. The Porch dropped a new menu of $10 Inflation-Free Cocktails. All day, every day—just like it used to be.

Industry reports estimate the last time the average cocktail in America cost $10 was more than a decade ago, so The Porch’s time-machine turn was a substantial one. And it’s not just standard well drinks going back in time. The $10 cocktail menu includes ten speciality cocktails, including a classic Margarita, a ready-for-spring Coconut Mojito, and (of course) an Espresso Martini.

“We want our neighbors to truly see The Porch as their neighborhood destination—somewhere they can grab a cocktail at an affordable price,”  says Executive Chef Chase Carlson. “We did some research and feel like inflation-free cocktails are exactly what the neighborhood needs right now.”

As if that isn’t good enough news, The Porch has sweetened the deal with a weekday Cocktail Hour featuring half-price cocktails, Monday–Thursday, 3-6pm. This means that inflation-free cocktail is then $5, which according to our maths, is basically free, right?
