A little nice, a little naughty—this gilded alcove of the lobby is lined with coffee table tomes on everything from iconic fashion and sustainable architecture to the golden age of burlesque. Pop in for a quick browse. Or, if you’re in the mood to hang out and flip through all 498 pages of the limited-edition Murals of Tibet, take all the time you please. TRAFFIC LA

Rick Owens, Acne Studios, Balmain, R13… have we caught your attention yet? Fans of forward-thinking designers and streetwear brands must carve out a little time for shopping at this men’s and women’s boutique just down Main Street from The Joule. The store is the only satellite location of the celebrated Los Angeles retailer that’s been dressing celebrities and Hollywood stylists since the ‘70s.

Shop Byredo, Celine, Dries Van Noten, Jacquemus, and more. After shopping, don’t skip a quick bite or cocktail at the penthouse-level restaurant, Mirador.

NEIMAN MARCUS

If the recent Neiman Marcus campaign featuring Ayo Edebiri and vintage pillbox hats has you feeling nostalgic, don’t miss a trip through the flagship location of Neiman Marcus on the corner of Main and Ervay. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was designed by architect George Dahl to replace its previous store on Elm Street which burned in 1913. Rich with details from a bygone era, the store is a landmark for fashion enthusiasts. (And yes, they still serve warm popovers and strawberry butter at the Zodiac Room.)

THE SPA AT THE JOULE

Unlike other beauty shops, you won’t find hundreds of brands lining the shelves at The Spa at The Joule. Instead, the lineup focuses on results-driven skincare and nourishing body treatments you won’t find anywhere else. From science-backed Biologique Recherche serums to divinely scented Oribe hair masks, to exfoliating salt scrubs from Candela, there’s a treasure for everyone who loves taking care of their skin.
