This little cheat sheet will have you feeling like an insider at The Joule in no time.

THE ELEVATOR ART

The Joule’s designer, Adam D. Tihany, called upon his photographer son, Bram Tihany, to shoot some of Dallas’s most iconic locations to be displayed throughout the hotel’s common areas, including the historic guest elevators. The angles and dramatic lighting are so unique that even locals (and hotel staff alike!) are surprised to learn the sites are within walking distance of the hotel.

THE SASSETTA MURAL

The artful star of Sassetta is undoubtedly its full-length wall mural—an abstract representation of the rolling hills and peaked mountains surrounding the restaurant’s namesake village in Tuscany. A specially commissioned piece by British interiors firm, de Gournay, the painted mural traveled the world for its final hand-beading by artisans in India before landing in Dallas just in time for the restaurant’s opening.

THE WHEEL

An homage to The Joule’s proprietor Tim Headington’s family business in the Texas oil and gas industry, the giant cog was a site-specific commission for The Joule’s opening in 2008. Headington’s background in film production came in handy as Hollywood set designers were hired to create the showstopping gear. It has not stopped turning since the opening of the hotel.

THE POOL

Cantilevered eight feet beyond the edge overlooking Main Street, The Joule’s award-winning, tenth-floor pool has become one of the most recognized pool designs in the world. Inside scoop: hotel owner Tim

Headington has always wanted to add a dripping spigot to the bottom of the pool as a little joke on passersby below. Though he hasn’t done it yet, he still might!

THE EYEBALL CHOCOLATES

This sweet collab was born out of a serendipitous moment a couple years ago. Shopping about town in October, the hotel’s general manager spotted local chocolatier Kate Weiser’s halloween-themed chocolates.

The eyeball truffles with multi-color irises were splattered with spooky red splotches. Within hours, our manager reached out to Weiser to propose “blood-free” blue-eyed sweets to match The Joule’s outdoor sculpture Eye by Chicago-based artist Tony Tasset. Art imitating sweets, or sweets imitating art? Available exclusively at Hotel Shop, the eyeball chocolates make for the perfect gift for friends and family back home.
